Stuff new families to Team Henges want to know…
Where do people stay for all of these out-of-town trips?
Linn Creek, MO competitions—The shooting range is only about 15 minutes from Osage Beach area. The range address is 51 Trapshooters Rd. Linn Creek, MO 65052
The Lakehouse is located at 3518 Osage Beach Pkwy, Osage Beach, MO 65065 (573)693-9336 This is a small mom-and-pop run business. The owners are super friendly and usually are the ones answering the phone and checking you in. The place was very clean and had lots of activities (free) to entertain the kids. (Indoor/Outdoor pool, hot tub, mini-golf, basketball, playground) They serve breakfast and offer a discount to Team Henges.
Camping at the shooting range. Electric Only. They do have a dumping station shower house and allow you to run your grey water into the ditch. It is $50.00 a night or $200.00 for a site for the entire year. If you plan to take your camper to all four events the yearly rate is the way to go. (573) 346-2449.

The closest lodging is at Exit 119 off of Highway 71 in Sunbury, Ohio. There is an outlet mall and many restaurants at this exit.
The Cardinal Center has onsite camping. Camp Office # (419)253-0800. I know the parent club has a block of rooms booked also!
The past couple of years the coaches and parent club try to book blocks of rooms in a single hotel.

The team usually just drives over each day to events at this location.
Camping is available onsite. 618-449- 2224 ext. 108
What should be bring to these events?
Lawn Chairs
A popup tent for shade
A cooler with lots of water and snacks. Sometimes flight times are pushed forward or back and fall at meal times. Be sure to have some good snacks to keep your athlete from standing at the line starving.
What about food?
Linn Creek
They have a small restaurant on site.
Osage Beach is close.
Sparta
Nothing is close. There is one onsite restaurant that gets very busy during events. I would suggest sandwiches and snacks be brought with you.
AIM Nationals is the exception because there will be lots of vendors open and selling food. Most of the same vendors that are at SCTP in Ohio are at AIM Nationals.
Ohio
The event is huge with lots of carnival style vendors set up.
This is also a great event to buy shooting supplies. They have tons of great deals on merchandise.
There is an Arby’s at the truck stop at the same exit as the Cardinal Center.
Exit 131 is the closest place with many food choices.
What kind of shells do we get?
See image at the bottom of page for desired shells to purchase.
What do all of those abbreviations mean?
SCTP - Scholastic Clay Target Program…this is mostly what our team competes in.
ATA - Amateur Trap Association
AIM - stands for Academics Integrity Marksmanship - it is the youth program for the ATA
MTA - Missouri Trap Association
What are “registered birds”?
“Registered birds” are scores registered with the ATA. For AIM nationals a shooter must have a certain number of registered targets or they will be moved up a class, making it harder for them to place.
Some scholarships require a certain number of birds as well.
How do I find out how many “registered birds” my kid has?
Go http://www.shootata.com/ShooterInformationCenter.aspx and put in your child’s name.
How long is an event? (Short answer: Sometimes it feels like forever)
Athletes are expected at the assigned field ONE HOUR before the assigned flight time. Your shooter should check in with his or her coach upon arrival.
If your shooter wants to do a practice round, plan to get there two hours early to ensure they can get in a practice round and still make it to the assigned field one hour early. There is usually a charge in the $5-$7 range.
Trapshooting in a game of hurry up and wait.
You will hurry and get the practice round finished, hurry to the field and wait.
Your shooter will shoot complete four rounds. Then we wait. Sometimes another 4 rounds. And we wait some more. Scores take a long time to be posted and the results take a long time to be sorted out. If there are ties, often there are shoot-offs.
Shooters should not leave an event until a coach clears them. Awards generally begin between 5 and 6 most evenings.
It is a long day: bring cards, a football, a book to read, etc.
